Across the UK, Vegetarian for Life's Accredited Care Home Members are proving that plant-based dining isn’t just possible – it’s thriving. From chefs trained in specialist nutrition to residents shaping menus through tasting sessions, these homes are setting new standards in inclusive, creative, and compassionate catering.

Vegetarian and vegan options are a core part of our daily and seasonal menus, not an afterthought.

They’re not alone. Across our network, care homes are reimagining comfort food, creating balance and variety for every resident, and proving that thoughtful, plant-based catering can connect, comfort, and bring joy. Some are even being recognised at our 2025 Awards for Excellence in Vegetarian and Vegan Care Catering, celebrating outstanding achievement in compassionate, nutritious dining.

Why it matters

  • 63% of people globally are open to eating more plant-based food.
  • 46% are actively trying to eat less meat, with numbers even higher in some European countries.
  • Plant-based eaters tend to value eco-impact and animal welfare, alongside nutrition and taste.
  • Simplicity is key – half of consumers prefer whole foods like beans, lentils, and vegetables over imitation meats.

This growing shift reflects a wider movement towards sustainability, wellbeing, and inclusion – values that Vegetarian for Life’s Accredited Care Home Members put into practice every day.

Looking ahead

As we celebrate Vegetarian Month, we’re also preparing for Vegan Month and Veganuary – continuing to shine a light on care homes that lead with compassion and creativity. Because great care should always include great food – for everyone.
